Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of teachers in fostering students' interest in mathematics from an early age. Mathematics is a fundamental subject that is often perceived as difficult by some students. Teachers play a crucial role in making learning more engaging and meaningful. The research uses a qualitative method by conducting open interviews with elementary school teachers at SD Negeri 060874. The findings reveal that students' interest in mathematics is significantly influenced by the teacher's role as a class manager, mentor, facilitator, and motivator. Furthermore, the home, school, and community environments also contribute to students' learning motivation. Teachers' efforts in overcoming learning difficulties include providing attractive learning media and using various teaching methods. This study concludes that appropriate teaching strategies and a supportive learning environment greatly impact students’ interest in learning mathematics.
